Taking SupplementsYes – you can take nutritional supplements with alkaline water, but there are some supplements you DON’T want to take with ionized alkaline water.  There are also some nutritional supplements that you may see better results by using the H2O setting on your Tyent water ionizer.

 

 

Here’s what you need to know about taking supplements with alkaline water….

In general, taking nutritional supplements like vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements with ionized alkaline water will help your body absorb them at a higher rate. 

When taking supplements you should use the same level of ionized alkaline water you have been using for drinking throughout the day.   If I take a supplement at bedtime (best time to take your Vitamin E) I’ll jump up to a higher level.  I want it in my body and working while I sleep.

The only other time I take a supplement with alkaline water that is stronger than I usually use for drinking is if I feel a cold coming on or if I’ve been exposed to people who have been passing a cold around.  In those cases, I boost my Vitamin C intake and use stronger alkaline water.  This speeds the C into my system faster to help boost my immune system.

When NOT to use Alkaline Water with Supplements

If you’ve ever taken a Niacin supplement you may have noticed the “flush” that comes shortly after taking it.  Most people will feel “flush” in their face and upper body and in many cases you can actually see your face getting red if you look in the mirror.

It typically passes quickly but this is NOT something you want to “super-charge” by taking it with ionized alkaline water.  My grandfather did this once – took his Niacin with a glass of 9.5 pH water that had been sitting on the counter for half an hour, then left to run some errands. 

He can laugh about it now but at the time, the “flush” effect of the Niacin was so extreme he had to pull off the road and wait, hoping it would pass. 

If you’re taking a Niacin supplement it’s best to use the water at the H2O or “neutral” setting on your water ionizer.  The water will be filtered but not ionized.

Probiotics are something else that I prefer to take with non-ionized water.

Because the target for probiotics is the stomach, not the bloodstream, and grow and flourish in the acidic environment of the stomach, water at the neutral or H2O setting will get the supplements where they need to go.  The stomach environment takes care of the rest.

RememberThings to Remember

When taking supplements with alkaline water, the same overall rules of drinking ionized water apply.

You want to wait at least 30 minutes before and after meals so that the acidic balance in the stomach is restored to ensure proper digestion of food.

You want to wait at least 45 minutes before and after taking prescription medication – not only does alkaline water speed your nutritional supplements into your system faster, but if you’re taking prescription medication it can speed up the rate at which your body absorbs that as well.  You don’t want to interfere with the intended absorption rate of your medication. 

When you first start taking supplements with ionized alkaline water, it’s a good idea to take note of any changes you feel.  There are just too many types of supplements to cover in detail here.  Some herbal supplements – in particular any type of herbal “stimulant” could leave you with unpleasant side effects.

Pay attention to your body and how it seems to react once you start taking your supplements with ionized alkaline water.  If necessary, lower the pH level of the water until you find the level that’s right for you and your nutritional supplemen regimen.

Finally, remember that the best source of vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids is the food that you eat.  Fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins and antioxidants.  Good quality meats and fish for amino acids and protiens.  Supplements are just that "supplements" - designed to supplement your diet.  They are no substitude for a healthy diet.

And don't forget - drink plenty of ionized alkaline water throughout the day!
